What is it?
Simba is one of the best known names when it comes to mattresses and offers a huge range, with doubles starting at £649 and going up to £2799.
We're testing one of its most popular hybrid mattress models, the Simba Hybrid Original, part of the Comfort range.
Costing £799 as a double, it's a medium firm mattress with five layers that combines 1900 Aerocoil micro springs between two foam layers sitting on a foam base with nine support zones for the hips and shoulders.
On top of that is a soft breathable knitted cover that also zips off and can be washed. Very handy if it gets stained.
Buy one now and you'll also get free hybrid pillows worth more than £200 which is a very good deal in our book. Simba also offers a 20% discount to healthcare works, teachers, military, charity workers and students.
What is it like?
We have a variety of mattress makes in our five-strong household including a king size Tempur, a single Eve mattress and a newly acquired Simba cotbed mattress for our youngest.
The Simba Hybrid Original we're testing is replacing a Silentnight Miracoil which is about five years old now and coming up for replacement. Used by our eldest, it's never proved the most comfortable, especially compared to the Tempur and Eve mattresses.
The Simba arrived via next day delivery and once out of the vaccuum packaging - watching it expand back into shape is oddly satisfying - we let it sit for 6 hours hours as per the instructions. Usefully, handles are incorporated in the design make it much easier to move and rotate.
The mattress is initially quite firm but after a few days soon starts to have a little more give. One thing you won't feel is the springs, thanks to the clever design this feels as soft as a quality memory foam mattress.
The difference between the Simba and the old mattress is like night an day. You can feel the quality of the Hybrid Original immediately - it's far more supportive and comfortable all round. Simba says it takes about 30 night to get used to a new mattress but even from day one, our eldest has slept so much better than before.
We were able to test it during some pretty warm summer nights - never much fun for children. Yet thanks to the airflow through the layers, our eldest was never uncomfortable hot during the night.
In fact, the issue we now have is getting him out of bed in the morning. He's enjoying his new mattress so much he's actually not up at the break of dawn, which is appreciated by us...
It's certainly quieter than the old mattress too, where the springs would clunk as you moved during the night. The Simba Original Hybrid is enjoyable silent in comparison.
We also tried it and found it almost as good as our Tempur, a mattress that costs nearly three times as much. I tend to suffer from lower back problems and sleep on my back, but had no such pain with the Simba.
Should I buy one?
You can't put a price on a good night's sleep, especially for your children. And the Simba Hybrid Original is worth every penny.
Our eldest has never slept so well and even during a hot late summer spell, he was comfortable. The extra support has proved very welcome and as he grows, will be invaluable. We love the knitted removable cover which has a lovely soft feel and is also washable.
We've been impressed with Simba mattresses in the past and the Hybrid Original is one of the best we've tried. Offering great support and wonderful comfort we think it's also excellent value for money.
If you're still undecided, Simba handily offers a 200 night trial so you can try it out for several months to be sure you're happy.
